LUXURY CRUISING AND THE  DRAMATIC SCENERY OF THE THREE GORGES

The Three Gorges along the Yangtze River offer some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Vertical cliffs rise dramatically from the water, a sight best appreciated from the comfort of a five-star luxury cruise ship. During the cruise, travelers will enjoy private cultural lectures by senior staff to enhance their visual experience.

Our itinerary commonly sails downstream from Chongqing to Yichang, allowing three nights onboard. The scenery varies along the way with each part of the journey displaying unique characteristics: the Qutang Gorge is narrowest of the gorges but is the most dramatic; the Wu Gorge is more beautiful with the river lined by forested mountains; while the Xiling Gorge is the longest and deepest.

There are several side excursions included as part of the cruise which illustrate the history and geography of the river. Clients will visit the “Ghost City” of Fengdu, as well as take a small boat ride through the Daning River Small Gorges which are impressive for their narrow width. Visitors may also wish to see the remarkable engineering feat that is the Three Gorges Dam, the largest in the world.

At the western terminus of the Yangtze River Cruise is the city of Chongqing which is famous for its flavorful (and sometimes spicy) Sichuan food. If you want to try something with a unique local taste, this is the place to do it! Sights within the city include the attractive gardens of Erlin Park, the General Stilwell Museum, The Great Hall of the People and Chongqing Ancient Town where porcelain is made. A delightful day trip is to Dazu to see the fascinating Buddhist rock carvings and frescoes which are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of the true hidden gems of China.
